Visual Research

In my last post I wrote how I had decided to look into texture inspiring surfaces. Since then I have been taking plenty of photographs of a variety of different interesting surfaces and textures I have found while out and about. I roamed my little town photographing anything that caught my eye, from a rusted old log burner to a graveled pavement in my local park. I wanted a large variety of completely different textures so I had a broader starting point to work off and would be inspired in many different ways.
My initial ideas are to experiment with stitch and materials to imitate the patterns and textures I can see within my photographs. I'm thinking a range of hand and machine stitching and possibly some fabric manipulation?

A few of the photographs I took.
