Pattern & Texture

From my prints I have been exploring different shapes and textures found in my new images developed from my original photographs. This was so that I could start to explore more with my stitch and me more abstract. I also want to start working with more 3D surface decoration and tactile embroidery.

This sample is one of my prints then layered with a black mesh to tone down the colours as I didnt want them to appear to tacky! I then used the french knot stitch with a variety of threads and embellished with beads to finish off for a more detailed and delicate appeal. I think the black mesh layer works really well in helping the print appear subtle and not too over-girly and over powering.

This sample is agin hand stitched, i layered organza over my material to again take that extreme boldness of the colour out and create a more subtle tone. The organza really works as it also brings a light shimmer to the fabric creating a much more sophisticated look. I used some mettalic blue thread to imitate a pattern I created and beaded the inside. I used quite dark threads to contrats with the delicate tones on the fabric, my idea is to use these extravagant colours while using another element to tone down the tackyness that my colour palette can bring. I particularly the weight and thickness of the embroidery against the fine materials, it creates a really interesting feel.
